I dream of my 70th<\/sup> birthday.\u00a0 My plan is to commence upon a decadent lifestyle when I turn 70, since pretty much every day after that is just a gift.<\/p>\n

In my dream, I buy a pack of menthol cigarettes, so I can finally be reunited with the bad habit I miss the most.\u00a0 Once I\u2019ve had my fill of morning coffee (which will be enhanced with real sugar and half & half), I\u2019ll switch immediately to indulging in a Bloody Mary or maybe a Tequila Sunrise, and drink throughout the day with reckless abandon.\u00a0 Both of those drinks have juice in them, and I don\u2019t want to be without vitamins at that age.\u00a0 I won\u2019t go over a half gallon of alcohol per day.\u00a0 (Don\u2019t laugh\u2026 I am genetically engineered to handle that much liquor.)<\/p>\n

I will drive fast.\u00a0 In a convertible.\u00a0 Manual transmission.\u00a0 With my dog in the passenger seat, wearing Doggles and a bonnet.\u00a0 Just not after my 4th<\/sup> Bloody Mary of the day.<\/p>\n

I will eat bacon every day.\u00a0 Every. Single. Day. Maybe at every meal.\u00a0 Maybe I will use bacon to garnish my tequila concoctions.<\/p>\n

I will throw all of my verbal filters out the window, and say whatever I want to whomever I want.\u00a0 I know some of you think I did that on my 45th<\/sup> birthday, but you have no idea.\u00a0 You ain\u2019t seen nothin\u2019 yet.<\/p>\n

Today, as I was thinking about how marvelous my 70th<\/sup> year is going to be, I started doing some math.\u00a0 My kids will be under 50.\u00a0 If they\u2019re anything like me, they may still need a solid sounding board at that age.\u00a0 My grandkids will be finishing their educations or starting careers and\/or families.\u00a0 Holy moly, I might even have a couple of great grandchildren running around.\u00a0 So at 70, I\u2019ll still be going to Disney films with little people, and reminding my son that HIS son is only acting just like HE DID at that age. ( By the way, Alex, I will smile when I get to tell you that.\u00a0 I\u2019ll probably even snicker.)\u00a0 My daughter may need me to dig out some old recipes for Christmas dinner.<\/p>\n

Well, Crap-A-Doodle-Doo.<\/p>\n

My 70\u2019s decadence is a pipe (cigarette) dream.\u00a0 I can\u2019t go off the rails of a crazy train.\u00a0 I\u2019ll still have a life.<\/p>\n

So, I\u2019m going to alter my dream to mesh with my reality\u2026..which is pretty much what I\u2019ve had to do with all my dreams throughout my life.\u00a0 Lucky for me, they mostly turned out OK.\u00a0 (Remember, happiness is a choice!)<\/p>\n

So, here\u2019s my compromise:\u00a0 My 70th<\/sup> birthday is going to be a blow out, with much tequila, even more bacon, and maybe even some 1970\u2019s disco dancing.\u00a0 Each subsequent birthday will be even more raucous and irreverent.\u00a0 The other 364 days, though, I\u2019ll behave.<\/p>\n

Except for the bacon, which I will eat every day.\u00a0 Every. Single. Day.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n
