Not ridiculous things, like winning the lottery, or once-in-a-blue-moon things, like a tropical vacation, but those little things that might just go unnoticed until you think about them.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, if \u201ctropical vacation\u201d is a \u201cregular thing\u201d in your life, just skip this post.\u00a0 Maybe even this entire blog.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure I like you.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s my hundred, in no particular order.\u00a0 I hope you take the time to think about yours, and realize that every day gives us reason to smile, to celebrate, to be grateful.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Bacon<\/li>\n<li>The first hummingbird of the season<\/li>\n<li>Having morning coffee on the porch with Steve<\/li>\n<li>The smell of BBQ wafting up into the house<\/li>\n<li>Watching the fountain show at Bellagio<\/li>\n<li>A St. Louis Cardinal baseball game at Busch Stadium, even in the crappy seats<\/li>\n<li>Changing the seasonal wreath on the front porch<\/li>\n<li>Baking Christmas cookies<\/li>\n<li>A really good haircut<\/li>\n<li>Moose sneaking up on the couch to fall asleep with his head in my lap<\/li>\n<li>Gathering chicken eggs in the morning<\/li>\n<li>A good thunderstorm, with plenty of lightning<\/li>\n<li>Jack in the Box tacos, the ones that have fake meat in them<\/li>\n<li>Our ornamental plum tree, when it\u2019s in full bloom<\/li>\n<li>A good fresh tomato<\/li>\n<li>Turning the kitchen calendar, which is always purchased for beautiful photos, to a new month<\/li>\n<li>Watching it snow<\/li>\n<li>A good book<\/li>\n<li>Shark Week on Discovery Channel<\/li>\n<li>Darsee &amp; David\u2019s Hemingway scented candles<\/li>\n<li>Making menus for a family meal<\/li>\n<li>Playing Spades with friends, or Poker with anyone<\/li>\n<li>Bumpy airplane flights<\/li>\n<li>Making a new decorative wreath<\/li>\n<li>Writing\u2026.anything<\/li>\n<li>People watching anywhere, but especially from a comfy chair with a refreshment<\/li>\n<li>Queso &amp; chips, the homemade kind with white cheese<\/li>\n<li>Watching the St. Louis Cardinals on TV<\/li>\n<li>Strolling Soulard Market<\/li>\n<li>Picking out new paint colors for a wall<\/li>\n<li>A road trip to ANYWHERE with Steve<\/li>\n<li>An hour in Barnes &amp; Noble<\/li>\n<li>Trying out a new recipe, bonus if it turns out correctly<\/li>\n<li>Putting up the Christmas Tree<\/li>\n<li>Towels right out of the dryer<\/li>\n<li>Windows down, 45 mph or faster, singing at the top of my lungs<\/li>\n<li>Ice crystals in the trees<\/li>\n<li>All the other hummingbirds<\/li>\n<li>Having a standoff with a fence lizard on the porch to see who moves first<\/li>\n<li>Watching the bats swoop around at dusk<\/li>\n<li>Seeing the Clydesdales, extra points for full regalia and in formation<\/li>\n<li>Kids on Halloween<\/li>\n<li>Fishing with Steve<\/li>\n<li>Having my house full of people<\/li>\n<li>A Sunday newspaper spread out on the bed<\/li>\n<li>Helping kids write letters to Santa<\/li>\n<li>Holding a puppy that still has \u201cpuppy smell\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Turning the lights on the Christmas Village every night,\u00a0 bonus for the first time each season<\/li>\n<li>Finding money I didn\u2019t know I had in my pocket<\/li>\n<li>Taking photographs<\/li>\n<li>Snuggling up to watch a movie<\/li>\n<li>Popcorn popped on the stove, in a big heavy pot, with real butter<\/li>\n<li>Sitting around a fire in the backyard<\/li>\n<li>Coming home to a miraculously clean house, thanks to my husband<\/li>\n<li>Watching the roosters chase each other around in the yard<\/li>\n<li>An email or phone call from a friend that I\u2019ve not seen in awhile<\/li>\n<li>Stumbling onto a Fall Festival or Craft Fair<\/li>\n<li>Getting the new Rand McNally Road Atlas that comes out every year (WalMart, $5.97)<\/li>\n<li>Making green pancakes for my grandson<\/li>\n<li>Cardinals huddling in the tree during the winter<\/li>\n<li>A trip to the St. Louis Zoo<\/li>\n<li>Watching deer on the trail behind the house, when they don\u2019t notice me<\/li>\n<li>Listening to my mother-in-law tell a story<\/li>\n<li>Watching my adult children transform into teenagers whenever they\u2019re in a room together<\/li>\n<li>The smell of freshly cut grass, especially when it\u2019s mine and I can enjoy a well manicured lawn<\/li>\n<li>Listening to Louie Armstrong sing \u201cWhat a Wonderful World\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Listening to the dogs snore<\/li>\n<li>Re-reading \u201cTo Kill A Mockingbird\u201d for the umpteenth time<\/li>\n<li>Making Easter baskets, and choosing which color grass to use for each one<\/li>\n<li>A really good watermelon<\/li>\n<li>A wander through any nature preserve, state park, or national forest<\/li>\n<li>Bull riding (<em>watching <\/em>bull riding\u2026.I know my limits)<\/li>\n<li>Watching toddlers spontaneously start dancing<\/li>\n<li>Repotting a plant<\/li>\n<li>Putting on flannel pajamas on a cold night<\/li>\n<li>Making donuts out of refrigerator biscuits with the grandkids<\/li>\n<li>Finding a bird\u2019s nest tucked into a bush (or Steve\u2019s work bench)<\/li>\n<li>Christmas music blasting through the house\u2026.especially pre-1970 recordings<\/li>\n<li>Catching a movie version of a classic musical on TV, especially West Side Story or The Music Man<\/li>\n<li>Parades, especially those featuring high school marching bands<\/li>\n<li>The smell of burning leaves<\/li>\n<li>A well applied new coat of nail polish on my toes, with no \u201coopsies\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Seeing a hot air balloon in the sky<\/li>\n<li>Really good, really authentic English Toffee<\/li>\n<li>Driving on the High Road during peak \u201ccolor changing\u201d weeks in the Fall<\/li>\n<li>Listening to peepers in the evening<\/li>\n<li>Playing Scrabble<\/li>\n<li>An unplanned afternoon nap on the couch<\/li>\n<li>Finding out my hotel room has complimentary CONDITIONER along with the shampoo<\/li>\n<li>A blooming flower garden, bonus for purple flowers<\/li>\n<li>Hot cocoa made from scratch, with real vanilla in it<\/li>\n<li>Getting together with my siblings<\/li>\n<li>Watching the light bulb go on when teaching one of the grandkids something<\/li>\n<li>Getting a new catalog in the mail, even though I\u2019m not going to order anything from it<\/li>\n<li>Having all the windows open in the house instead of using the furnace or AC<\/li>\n<li>Realizing that I\u2019ve hit the airplane seat assignment jackpot:\u00a0 Exit Row, Aisle<\/li>\n<li>Perusing the olive oil store (yes, we have a store dedicated to olive oil) or the candle store<\/li>\n<li>Watching the sun rise from the back deck<\/li>\n<li>Realizing it\u2019s Girl Scout Cookie season<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And, finally, 100.\u00a0 Finishing a project, whether it be writing Christmas cards, rearranging the pantry, or making a list of 100 things that make me happy.\u00a0<a
